Description:

Esomeprazole reduces gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase in parietal cells; used for GERD, peptic ulcer, and reflux.

Advantages and Disadvantages:

Advantages: Effective acid suppression, healing of erosive esophagitis, once-daily dosing. Disadvantages: Headache, nausea, long-term risk of B12 deficiency, osteopenia with prolonged use, drug interactions.
